Watford Museum wins a Tourism Rosette

Watford Museum has been awarded the accreditation of VisitEngland’s Quality Assured Visitor Attraction, for the seventh year running.

The award is a testament to the museum's rising visitor numbers and innovative events and activities. The assessment praised the range of interesting items featured in the museum along with the beautiful gardens which combine to create a great first impression and experience for visitors.

VisitEngland also acknowledged that the museum is in need of refurbishment and the facilities in need of modernisation. Since opening in 1981 many of the displays have remained the same. In that time the museum’s collections have grown significantly, with new acquisitions arriving every month.

Watford Museum is applying to the Heritage Lottery Fund for some money to completely refurbish their Grade II listed home. The restoration project will not only improve access and ensure the building is fit for purpose, it will also ensure visitors can really engage and interact with the amazing historical and art collections on display.

Watford mayor Dorothy Thornhill said: “The town has a museum to be proud of and the prestigious VisitEngland Accreditation shows that it is up there with the very best. It’s great to see that our dedication to putting the visitor first has paid off, and that our efforts to make the museum a great day out for all ages has been recognised”
