Come to the Big Bandstand summer of free live performances

Everyone is invited to a summer of free live performances at Watford’s resplendent and award-nominated bandstand in Cassiobury Park.

The Big Bandstand programme of summer-time music will run right up until late September 2017. Every Sunday afternoon, we’ll have a different performance at the historic bandstand between 2pm and 4pm. There will be various weekday performances too, giving you the perfect place to sit outside in the sun and take in some music during your lunch break. You can view the full list of acts here.

The Voyageurs Ambassadors of Music USA will be sending bands from 15 different American states to perform for us across a series of dates. We’ll be marking the summer solstice on Wednesday 21 June, from 6pm to 8pm, with Make Music Day UK, where Sca and mod covers band ‘The Iconics’ will play. And our popular Big JiveSwing Festival will return to the bandstand between 1pm and 6pm on Sunday 30 July for a fantastic music and dance extravaganza.

The renovation and return of Watford’s bandstand to its original home in Cassiobury Park has been shortlisted for the 2017 Horticulture Week Custodian Awards' Best Parks Restoration/Development Project accolade. The bandstand was originally opened in the Cassiobury Park in 1912. It returned there last year as part of a £6.6m restoration of the historic beauty spot – funded by Watford Borough Council and the Heritage Lottery and Big Lottery funds – and is now painted in the colours of the coat of arms of the Capel family, who once owned the Cassiobury estate.

Cllr Peter Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Client Services at Watford Borough Council, said: “What better time to visit Watford’s fantastic Cassiobury Park? As well as transforming our bandstand, we’ve put £350,000 into refurbishing the popular nearby Cha Café, which was built in the Edwardian period. Our £6.6m restoration project has really brought Cassiobury’s history to life. Please do visit us for a day out – Cassiobury Park is twice the size of London’s Hyde Park and is enjoyed by people of all ages. Cassiobury is a fantastic park and one of my favourite places in the town. This investment has made a great park even better."
