Regeneration Agenda
Watford is currently pursuing an ambitious and transformational regeneration agenda which includes improving access to transport and employment opportunities and new affordable housing. The agenda aims to expand the retail and leisure offer in the town centre, to create new commercial spaces and therefore new jobs for local people. The development projects are linked, complement each other and the cumulative benefits are far greater than those of each individual project.
The recent announcement that the Croxley Rail Link (CRL) has been approved by government represents a significant investment in the infrastructure of the town. The rail link will cost approximately £230m and will result in the extension of the Watford Branch of the Metropolitan Tube Line to Watford Junction via Watford High Street. Two new stations are being created, at Ascot Road – Cassiobridge Station – which will serve Ascot Road and Watford and Croxley Business Parks, and at Vicarage Road, serving Watford Health Campus and the hospital, Watford Football Club, as well as the residential areas of West Watford. The town will have excellent tube connectivity with 4 stations in the Borough.
